Truck Bed Covers increase Gas Mileage

In addition to safety, truck bed covers offer an increase of over 10% in fuel consumption. This is excellent news with current fuel prices. View studies by reducing drag due to airflow in bed with a truck tonneau cover will result in a decrease of 11% in drag than a bed of the truck without a cover. Studies have also revealed a canopy actually increase drag and fuel consumption. Results vary depending on the make and model of vehicle.

Here's how it works when the airflow passing truck cabin. The separated flow behind the cab and enters the truck bed resulting drag if the bed is not covered. Replacing the rear hatch with a load of net results in increased drag compared to removing the tailgate, which resulted in an increased, but not as much as the NET load. Reducing drag, thus increasing fuel economy, the best method is to install a tonneau cover over the bed of the truck.

There are now more options available for the customer to improve the mileage while adding style and safety.

There are conservatively 500,000 trucks with covers on the street everyday and based on the average gas savings, save 60 million gallons of gas per year or about 100,000 dollars. Studies show the unit owner of truck media 18,000 miles per year. 15 mpg that reaches 1000 gallons of gas. At a minimum saving of 10% would save you approximately 120 litres per year (and many reports show to be more like 12%). You can see why it would not have too many months to get your new cover of trucks pay for itself.
